Brita has been painting with us since the summer of 2002. She is an independent art teacher in Tucson, and gives private and small group lessons. Brita grew up in a household where every Saturday was art class day. Mom, an Alfred University graduate, taught classes in her kitchen all day, and Brita participated not only in the class for her age group, but in many of the others as well. She always loved to draw, and would spend hours drawing dancers, gymnasts, models and all kinds of other people, often creating pictures that told a story. In high school Brita focused heavily on art, taking classes in painting, ceramics, jewelry, drafting, graphic arts and photography, winning an award for some of her color photography. In her senior year, her art portfolio won her a scholarship to Pratt Institute's fashion design program in New York. However, Brita also loved creative writing, and eventually left art for English. She earned a Masters Degree in secondary education, and taught Art, English, and History to 7th-10th grades for four years before moving to Tucson, where she began teaching art at her own kitchen table. She now teaches three classes of children ranging in age from 5 to 15.
